All Our Children Meow and Woof

I created this blog to sort through my emotions as Finnegan, a great Irish Wolfhound, fought bone cancer for nearly 26 months. Fortunately, his battle subsided for many months and during the course of the 26 months, I shared stories about his feline siblings. On August 8, 2008, Finny passed on in my husband's and my arms. He fought the good fight and he will always have a special place in my heart. *If you have a question, please write me at finnegandog at gmail dot com.*

This Dog Needs a Nanny!

I apologize for the lack of posts but Mummy left me without my computer. How rude. While Mummy and Daddy visited family for the holidays, the kitties and I were left with a petsitter. Normally, I am sad when Mummy and Daddy leave for vacation. Mummy said to say she is also sad when she leaves us and would take us with her except stupid fake mother-in-law does not like dogs. Jerk. I send dogbursts in her general direction.

This time was no exception, I did miss Mummy and Daddy. HOWEVER, I did have fun. My "petsitter" who I like to refer to as my nanny visited us at least three times per day and her small humans (children?) played with the kitties and me. One of the mini-humans had the most bestest idea ever: take ME for a walk!!!! It was so much fun to walk with a new person! Even though Mummy takes me for a walk almost every day now, she becomes so boring. She always wants to go in the same direction. *Yawn* Nanny and mini-humans walked a different path and I sniffed so many fantastic smells. Ahhhhhhh....

Mummy and Daddy returned with gifts and hugs. I slept with my head in Mummy's lap last night while she and Daddy watched TV. I love having them back. AND, they brought back gifts to give me. My favorite is the squeaky bear that Daisy slobbered all over before wrapping. I love toys used by other dogs.

My life is back to normal with Mummy and Daddy having returned and giving me lots o' love and attention. And by the way, because I am doing fairly well, I might let the kitty siblings write on this bloggy once in a while because they are very opinionated.

Happy New Year!! Whatever that means!

No Turkey for Me!

Oh well. I did get my dog treats for sensitive stomach. My Nana and Boppa came just to visit ME! Or maybe not, I suppose they wanted to see their daughter and son-in-law. And perhaps maybe they wanted to see the other four legged fuzzballs. But really, we all know that they want to see: moi - the fabulous Finnegan. In action. On all three legs. Now really, who needs four legs? Whoops, I just wrote kegs instead of legs. Hmmm, I do need four kegs of Guinness though.

Nana said she was worried to see me at first but I proved to her that I was fine. Mom let me run up and greet them. I was so excited to see my nana! She is the only person (besides my mommy and daddy - I kiss daddy when no one is looking) to whom I give kisses. We had a very nice time. Whenever I had the chance, I smooched my Nana and head butted her. Mommy doesn't like me to do that because Nana is petite BUT I JUST CAN'T CONTROL MYSELF!!!! She and Boppa left this morning. Boohoo. I guess I'm left to smooch Mommy and Daddy. How boring! Woof!

Big Bad Bodie

I am not the only huge one in the extended critter family. Exhibit A: Bodie the cat/Holstein cow hybrid sleeping on the couch. Note the big furry stomach and the enormous head. I think he takes up a whole seat cushion. Yikes. To see more happy critters, please go to http://www.wptz.com/ and link to the Pets on Parade on the lower right of your screen.

Daisy Doodle Scare

Whooboy! We had a little scare in the dog family. My cousin, Daisy the most giantest Great Dane, felt under the weather yesterday. Being the hypochondriac she is (i.e. a big BIG baby), she refused to get out of her human parents' bed. Also, she left a couple puddles of pee or puke around the house (nice work, Daisy!). Because she would not extract herself from the extremely comfortable human bed (now really, why should she move?), human mum had to wait for human dad to return home. When he did, they brought her to animal emergency room. Apparently, this is a very interesting place (or human parents hit the bottle before they went - kidding!) because they saw one of those kangaroo type creatures in the lobby. That is besides the point. Once there, the veterinarian noticed she had a swollen joint (distal radius) in front leg. Uh oh. That is how my arch enemy - the osteosarcoma, the evil dreaded bone cancer who WILL DIE DIE DIE - presented. However, Daisy also had a fever and I suppose she was a wee bit dehydrated. They x-rayed her leg and thankfully, no apparent cancer. Phew! They shaved the area around her joint to see if there were any puncture wounds from Fred the psycho kitten or perhaps a large branch protruding out (she is a GIGANTOR GREAT DANE after all). Nothing there either. So long story short, they kept her overnight, gave her IV fluids and antibiotics, and are sending her x-ray to a veterinary radiologist (like the fancy Cornell one who looked at my x-ray) to make sure nothing was missed. Daisy gets to go home this morning and hopefully she will feel better very soon.

BIG WOLFHOUND SMOOCHES YOUR WAY, BABY!
